When I was a kid, it seemed like society was obsessed with quicksand. I know I was — I was terrified and studied all the texts on What To Do.
I was reminded of it watching an old Italian film — Divorce, Italian Style — this evening, in which one of the characters drowns in quicksand. (In southern Sicily. Where I’m headed in a couple months. So now I’m worried.)
Seems like you never hear about quicksand anymore.
