Optical media, like their magnetic cousins, can also fail over time.

His usual batch of discs are still ok but he mentions at the end a CD from 1996 that worked last year but not anymore.
So if you have precious discs (e.g. with family photos) be sure to back them up, and if you can archive any obscure commercial titles not yet archived by others.
