Solid black jigsaw status update: There are letters on the back of each piece, dictating which of 6 sections it belongs to. Border and section joins were easy, (although one piece in the middle evades me), and now one section is in!
Admittedly, the lettering does make it much easier than I'd anticipated, as you can also tell how to rotate each piece from those too. I might do it again after this run, facing all of the pieces up so that it isn't obvious which way around they're meant to go.
