2nd, the fundamentals of Bitcoin don't change if you save in bitcoin either. So I'm not sure what you are talking about?
Much like people save and spend dollars, if Bitcoin is to be successful, people will save and spend Bitcoin.
The reason is quite simple:
By saving in Bitcoin, your purchasing power increases.
By spending Bitcoin, you are able to transact in ways you cannot do with dollars. (Fast Settlement, hard to censor, etc ..).
