That seems to be partly Smashwords’ fault, and partly the publishers. My own account, “nagegerg”, is what I set up to self-publish there, so all the books are both written and published by me, whereas the other “profile” for me seems to come solely because the publishers of an anthology containing one of my stories set up their own profile for "Greg Egan” as a contributor to their book.

Most commercial publishers insist on DRM and won’t publish through Smashwords at all, so you can’t expect to find every book by every author there.
