I don't understand why a bunch of people think that the US and Russia are capable of putting an end to the Russo-Ukrainian war. Ukrainians built tire fortresses and occupied their own cities to fight back against a Ukrainian government they didn't support, what makes anyone think that an enforced "peace" deal wouldn't just be years of insurgency?

There are still Chechen seperatist attacks on Russian and Russian-aligned military targets in Chechnya. That conflict formally ended in 2000, and the seperatist movement was declared disabled in 2009. And if you want examples more familiar to English speakers, one only has to look to the history of Ireland for a greater wealth of examples of how long insurgency can hold against occupation.
