I'm doing something else today before I re-install. Because my main concern now is not to destroy my fully synched blocks folder by somehow inadvertently overwriting it, yesterday I got a 2 TB external SSD and I am now copying my whole datadir onto it. Which is taking 5 hours.
Once I'm done, I'm going to do several things:
1. I will edit to QT config file to use the new drive as datadir instead of the previous one, and see if it indeed accepts the newly copied one as valid
2. If it does, I will do the same with the daemon config file, and see what happens. If it simply accepts it as good and doesn't try to start a new initial download or anything like that
3. If 2 is successful, then I'll have learnt something valuable and will proceed to uninstall this Snap piece of shit thing with complete peace of mind, and try to get it done again properly.
If I know that I don't have to resynch from scratch, I have no problem whatsoever nuking the whole system and even changing the whole OS if Ubuntu doesn't offer a straightforward way to do it.
