The much simpler answer here is - convenience.

As soon as a user of any other coin starts using Monero, there is elation, surprise, cognitive dissonance.

Why?

Because Monero simply works, and does not require the user to dance with tambourine to... work.

You don't have to watch the mempool to "send the transaction correctly" (as you do with Bitcoin). Also, you don't need to use centralized CoinJoins, or the CoinJoins who worked with Chainalysis before...

You don't need to play with "shielding" / mixing or any other secret tambourine dances of the "we-have-better-tech" tribe.

Monero wallet fees are "Automatic", and you usually pay 0.015 USD ~ 0.04 USD fees per on-chain transaction, and you get: privacy by default = convenience.

There is a great service - @btcmap. If you are in a city where BTC is accepted, check if they will accept XMR from you?

It may be that you will be refused, sometimes even aggressively (yes, there are inadequate merchants who accept Bitcoin).

But there is also a chance (and it is big) that they will accept XMR as an exception.

Also, you can always offer your help to the merchant to set up a Monero wallet.

So, the person who wonders why Zcash is not used as a payment method - he doesn't realize that ZEC is no different from other "ordinary" coins.

And the "shielding" feature... well, look at the number of shielded transactions and you will understand everything.

No hate towards Zcash. I just don't use it.
