Being a Bitcoiner Has Made Me Understand My Grandparents
It took a while for me to make this connection, but the truth is my Grandparents never really understood that the money had been devalued.
They grew up (all four both sides) in an American almost no one remembers. Though the great depression and both grandfathers served in WWII.
I always thought the depression was why they saved so much, questioned every cent they spent and avoided debt like it was cancer. It really wasn't though it was how they saw money. They saw money as "gold" because for most of their lives it was.
It had real value in their minds and it was also why when prices on anything went up, at all, they got pissed off. I am talking a gallon of milk going up 3 cents and they noticed.
I always admired the thrift and tried to model it in my life, though not always successfully. Once I really understood bitcoin I started treating my bitcoin exactly the way they treated their dollars. I have talked about this a lot over the years, but didn't really connect the final dots till right now on this 2nd cup of coffee on a Sunday morning.
We are returning to this system of value that was lost. In fact we have a superior system of value in every way over gold. In time perhaps, just perhaps if we continue to grow and build with bitcoin, we may regain not only a system of value, but a culture of values. 🤔
