It’s well known that the federal government can dangle federal funding over the individual states in the forms of various grants and programs, and in doing so enforce conditional partisan constraints on them. A state who “by principle” rejects the federal funding severely limits their competitive edge with other states. Or they at the very least put themselves at a disadvantage.
Could we be seeing the same effect with El Salvador?
Or, does Bukele think by having the BTC treasury reserve he is able to adequately hedge the inflationary nature of the loans he’s taking, and therefore might as well take the money for development while he can.
He and his admin can’t plant the flag of BTC ownership and lame duck the remainder of his term.
I find this whole saga to be quite interesting. 🇸🇻
