It's cool that the UK is pushing forward with Westinghouse's AP300 https://www.ans.org/news/article-6337/uk-gives-ok-to-westinghouse-ap300-smr/
I'm not super sold on the idea of small modular reactors (SMRs) that just use existing PWR technology. I think the desire to push that path is more economic than technological. They want them cheaper and faster using existing supply chains and construction methodologies, instead of exploring reactor concepts that are safer and more efficient.
It's cool but I think a step backwards. I think if we accept that SMRs are just smaller versions of existing reactors and not an opportunity to advance the science, we won't advance in the ways we need to.
