in 2020, i wrote an IRCX server implementation, and by "wrote an IRCX server implementation" I mean I hacked one into charybdis, at https://github.com/ophion-project/ophion
IRCX was Microsoft's attempt to extend IRC as part of Exchange back in the early 2000s, and they ran a public instance at irc.msn.com.
the idea (my idea) was to build a discord alternative based on IRCv3 + IRCX extensions + some sort of STUN/TURN thing + media upload / transcoding service and a bunch of other shit i have since forgotten about.
in my defense, it was during the "lockdown", and i was bored.
