I'd say that 3rd wave feminism and the reemergence of the blank slate hypothesis into psychology laid the groundwork. Prior to this it was seen as reasonable that women and men were different but what was lacking was the rights of women. Afterwards we have everyone is the same. If everyone is the same sexual differences are also meaningless. And yet the use of stereotypes of the sexes is rife in transgenderism.
