Here's a small historical oddity that I experienced :
In 2003, I was on a message board and someone linked to the Kurds celebrating that they captured Saddam.
Hours later, the 'We got him' press conference was held by the US.
I just checked for more evidence, and the Sydney Morning Herald covered this back in the day:

I think the Kurds captured Saddam and the US took credit for it.
