I also started with the DOS version and it was the version I used mostly. I just remembered that my last project was a lib to create graphical user interfaces, probably that event shaped my interest in the UX area!
Before I wrote a fractal zoom-in explorer and I had to inject some assembly code to have more colors to play with. And finally a draughts game engine (was just a plain recursive approach, nothing fancy) as a challenge to try to win against a friend of mine in a real life match. School was really fun in those days.
