Speaking of words people say in the north. My poor mother did an old people's German course in Aus and they started with greetings and the teacher explained there were many regional greetings in Germany; Grüß Gott, Servus etc. My mum put up her hand and offered "Moin" and the teacher said " No, I haven't heard of that, that's not true." She didn't put up her hand again but I keep bringing her Moin Kitsch in case she ever re-enrols.
