“Don’t surrender your loneliness so quickly.
Let it cut more deep.
Let it ferment and season you
as few humans or even divine ingredients can.
Something is missing in my heart tonight,
has made my eyes so soft,
my voice so tender,
my need of God absolutely clear.”
Written by the 14th-century Persian mystic and poet Hafiz. This poem reflects the deep spiritual longing and transformative power of loneliness, a common theme in Hafiz's work, where he often expresses the idea that human suffering can lead to a greater connection with the divine. The lines beautifully convey the poet's belief in the spiritual benefits of embracing one's solitude and pain, allowing them to deepen one's relationship with God.
