I would not have known that First Nation people still exist if not for a Lakota co-worker I had in college. He got me to go to some lectures on campus by visiting First Nation activists/educators.
Eons later I was inspired to improve my education on the subject by the American soap opera Western "Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman".
Despite being a soap opera the writers did their homework. The writers worked in many things about indigenous history and issues into the stories. Women's history and issues too. Bits about herbal medicine too!
The show was decades ahead of its time, exposing popular TV audiences I only got in college due to meeting someone by chance.
