We got lucky on COVID-19. It only wrecks us and does major systemic damage that wrecks our immune system and causes long term side effects, killing a decent portion of people who catch it even as we pretend it away
Well, that doesn't sound so lucky, but something even worse could have killed even more people with even more debilitating effects and that may well be what the next pandemic delivers. And, meanwhile, mitigation resistance (including vaccines) is at an all time high...
