Social networks need actual moderation, where abusive and illegal material gets removed. It’s not sufficient to have filters people can subscribe to for “no child porn”, “no doxxing”, “no stochastic terrorism”, and then leave all those posts available for people who want to see them.

I think you’re right that many people are failing to understand this difference, partly because of Bluesky trying to obfuscate it, and partly because they’ve had the privilege of never having been targeted by a group like kiwifarms or Stormfront.
