we get right-wing authoritarians when too many people feel economically left behind and there is nobody seriously offering government fixes for that. you can't seriously argue the Dems are left when we're the only advanced nation without universal health care. and economies with less government involvement (which despite conservative protest we clearly are compared to most other advanced nations) don't become free market, they become corporate oligarchies.
