When I first met my husband I was a newly minted single mom.
Just settling into the idea that being unhitched was the cat's meow.
Besides, I was sure he wasn't my type. He was enthusiasticly single and had more female friends than I had pairs of shoes, and that is a lot.
He wasn't my first anything. No love at first sight even.
Maybe, because I wasn't looking I was more comfortable just being myself and being his friend. He was someone interesting to talk to with a bent towards adventure. He was fun to be around.
Once I started baking pies for him it was all over. We were a couple.
Through ups and downs, sickness and health we have weathered unbearable loss as well as much joy. Thirty six years later, here we are, still choosing each other's company.
Who would have guessed?
