I had mentor and teacher who was as close to a contemporary embodiment of Socrates as one can arguably get, and after 15 years of contemplating his philosophy—and therefore Plato’s and Socrates’, his teacher—I believe Socrates did believe one could have knowledge (in a way), but that this “knowledge” is of the True, Beautiful, and Good, and is therefore ineffable: for of it, “nothing can be said.” Hence, one “knows nothing.”
