It is weird how things have changed. It seems like no one hosts new servers anymore, but old ones shut down all the time. Pleroma isn't developed seriously anymore. Mastodon is doing its thing but I don't think new servers are getting spun up, the existing ones just keep absorbing more Communists, and Lord only knows what's going on in Japan, I guess they have their own separate thing.
