As I wrap up my CS degree (I'll have time for other stuff), I'm considering a focus on Criminology/Victimology, with an interest in how #Bitcoin and similar technology could reduce crime (including certain victim traits that may contribute to crime).
Although I'm most interested in serial sexual homicide, those crimes are rare compared to others. A lot of crime probably comes from economic and cultural problems. I suspect many would be criminals could be deterred with better economic incentives and alternatives. Addressing the broken fiat system (and its downstream effects found in broken government and policy) would probably reduce a lot of bad outcomes in many areas.
Plus, we can probably reduce the growing police state as a result, since a lot of that seems to be driven by increasing crime in certain areas. Reducing crime will also increase economic investment and production, and so on.
I don't know anything for sure, but it's an interesting topic.
#Nostr can play a critical role in decentralized research for this topic and others.
