If you were born on a deserted island, you’d act exactly as you would elsewhere - try to minimize pain. Even if you were provided with plenty of resources, shelter; food, technology, you’d still act to avoid the pain of boredom.
The same is true for animals but I have a feeling they have a stronger biological imperative to reproduce and will subject themselves to harm to accomplish that.
