In #SouthAfrica (maybe other parts of the world too), you often see the suffix "AH" after a town or suburb name in an address (e.g. "1 Apple Street, Peachfontein AH, Johannesburg, South Africa" [Not a real address].

I never knew what the AH meant. I kept meaning to find out, but kept forgetting/getting sidetracked with real work and never getting to it.

Well, today I learnt, quite by accident, that it stands for "Agricultural Holding", and it refers to land that was originally demarcated for agricultural purposes, typically with a minimum size requirement. Over the years, as is typically the case, the land might've become urbanised and have little or no agriculturally viable patches left, but the "AH" designation remains.
