Yes, you only need 500GB of disc space but you also need 600k IOPS and the ability to run 99.999% 24/7 ... oh .. and share the data directly with other servers (ie SAN)
That single 1TB 5400 RPM SATA from Unknown Mfg (that you got on ebay for $50 and is designed for security cameras) isn't going to cut it.
