24” x 30” Mixed Media Canvas Update:

I took the colored sketch I drew in Procreate and divided it into a grid of 6. Printed these out and used them with carbon paper to trace out the design onto the canvas.

Once that was done, I spent an awhile futzing with it, working with the shapes and layout and getting it close to how I want the final art to look, because seeing it there before me on this HUGE canvas made me want to simplify some of the shapes. This is the part of my art process where it doesn’t matter if I started with a reference or traced an outline because I don’t look at that any more; from now on, it’s about what I see on the canvas. Later I sometimes go back to my main reference and even look up others, depending what I need help with: lighting, texture, shape, etc.
