For people who are not satire-enabled: the best that fediverse governance can ever be is an opt-in manual of polite etiquette; all shunning and blocking and muting and defederating and “composable moderation” (hello, bluesky fans!) is optional when users can simply, freely and liberally connect directly to 4chan/gab/truth/whatever. The pretence that part of the open web can or has been somehow sandboxed into polite behaviour through the magic of protocols, is just that: a pretence. Sure, it’s true that people who themselves want to live inside a safe sandbox can more freely and easily choose to do so — but that should be recognised as isolationism rather than solving the problem.
