The key to renewable energy (whcih by its nature can be erratically supplied) is storage.
But, the Govt. thinks storage is not enough & still advocates for gas turbines to cover gaps in renewable energy provision.
However, pumped hydro (using gravity, to release water previously pumped up hill during surplus energy periods) is one of the most efficient storage technologies (& is clean), and once built cheap to maintain.
This is where public investment should be going.
