In my mind there is one sign we should be looking for to see if Democrats Get It, basically one sign above all others. It's the sign that they understand themselves as the formal electoral wing of a dissident movement.

"We would never celebrate violence but..."

Any variation of that. That's the politics of formal insurgency. It's the role of the formal agents of politics to legitimize direct action and one of the hallmark ways of doing that is some variation of "I don't approve of their methods but we can all understand how they were pushed to this. The only way for this to stop is to address the real issues here." This is the politics of legitimizing and building upon direct action through formal political outlets. This, by the way, is something Republicans are doing with their terror network all the time.
