I was looking through various data warehousing, lakehousing tools as part of a hiring task for a company where I have to design a data platform.
I started to feel the same feeling while trying to figure out if we need to use a next-gen /anything/.
For example, try to to look at the websites and marketing material of any of the following:
- Next-gen database.
- Next-gen programming language.
- Next-gen text editor.
- Next-gen infrastructural component.
- Next-gen os distro.
How do you even make a decision, with such a dizzying (multi-dimensional) array of choices?
I have come to the conclusion, that it doesn't matter as much what you use. Use ed to write assembly on NetBSD for all I care. At the end of the day if you're able to make your tools do useful work for you, you are doing alright.
All the rest is marketing, which are likely not in your best interests.
