My central concern over these 'parental rights' decisions, multitudinous as they are, is that they offer an increasingly widespread opportunity for other, more odious decisions to be made along the same grounds. Is it a slippery slope argument? Absolutely -- but this slope is very well-traversed already.

The ostensible right of parents to seek medical care as they see fit, for example, has been used to allow for conversion torture not just for LGBTQ+ youth, but also as a rationale for behavioural adjustment 'therapy' -- shock torture -- for autistic and other neurodivergent minors, as seen in the Judge Rotenberg Center for Youth.

Nothing I have seen in DeWine's history of executive decisions implies that he'll do anything to the contrary. Which isn't to say that he'll pass laws unilaterally, but rather that without the threat of veto, 'parental rights' can now be effectively used as a blank cheque.
