Average people just do not understand cops, firefighters, soldiers, emergency care workers etc. An average person living an average life has no way to compute the trauma these people go through on a daily basis. And what kind of person it takes to perform these functions. There is a fascinating divide within society based on that alone. Would make a good thesis paper, if it hasn't already been done, which I suspect it has. But could be updated.
