The whole "you can't be punk and be a racist or fascist" idea goes against every known fact about 70s and 80s punk rock. Bands like The Ramones, Sex Pistols, Minutemen, Social Distortion, Mentors, Dwarves, Misfits, and many others weren't "left wing." Many of them spouted homophobic bullshit. It was "jock rock" with no discernable message other than "be angry and rebel without a cause." It was meaningless sound and fury for disaffected CHUDs who were mad but didn't know who to be mad at because they weren't listening to DK, Crass, Bad Religion, Killing Joke, The Lords of the New Church, The Clash, etc.
It's why so many Gen X punks became alt-right libertarian edgelords
"Pretty Vacant" and "No Feelings" (From "Never Mind the Bollocks") alone sum up 70s and 80s punk rock apathy and sociopathy and the idea that having concern for others is a bad thing
