I am asking because I want clarity of language, and because I may be mistaken about how things work, so I am hoping for clarity if I am.

It seems to me that if we are going to call Liquid self-custody, then we must do the same with fedimints, and perhaps with all eCash, especially given 's response here:
Well, technically yes. How would you differentiate between a self-custodial ecash wallet and a hosted ecash account? As long as you don't say it's self-custodial Bitcoin, I think it is what it is. If the industry would've adopted the wallet vs. account terminology, maybe we would have more options.

If that's the case, though, we should always be careful to specify that it is self-custody of something other than Bitcoin. It is self-custody Liquid, or self-custody eCash, etc. I can definitely live with that framing. No one can take the token you hold the keys to from you, but they could still rug the underlying Bitcoin, and the user should be very aware of that.
