There literally isn't enough grid capacity available for them to all switch.\n\nI had a gas water heater in my condo in Wisconsin. I replaced my oven with gas so I could add an EV charger to my garage for a Tesla in 2018. It was literally a violation of the electrical code and I wouldn't have passed inspection if my oven wasn't gas: too much amperage per sqft. The 2018 NEC didn't take the EV charger into consideration yet to give more wiggle room for how much power you're allowed to have. I was also too close to maxing out my 100A panel as well but I wouldn't have been allowed to upgrade it anyway due to the electrical code...\n\nPlus it's expensive. Everyone in America can't afford $5000 in electrical work just to get off gas\n\nThe upper northeast *needs* to heat their homes with fuel oil, for example. Sounds terrible? It is, but there is no better option due to their geography and climate.",
