Certs are a popular solution but nothing beats real-world experience.
People who make money are people who are masters of something. If someone is a wizard with electrical, plumbing, computers, editing, writing, even graphic art, they will do just fine.
But this distinction happens after the certs and only in contact with the real world.
I think mentoring works best to be honest.
