To Nostr, is to have an active stance. Instead of leaning over backwards, simply trusting a single source to answer your every request while it does all the lifting; in Nostr each part involves some (concious) action.

When you publish, you sign, you decide what relay(s) to broadcast it to, you maintain your record of what relays you employ such that others can find it. And it is because of this active stance you can route around censorship.

When you want to read something, appart from being limited to what you can find, you very much decide on what it is you get to see. You decided on your context, which informs the many vectors u use to determine if something relevant; be that follow-lists and carefully crafted heuristics, or the decission to outsource these things.

Obviously most of these actions are or will be automated, and such their concious nature will also drift towards the backgroud perhaps. And eventhough the masses likely will end up far more passive then we want to see them; in this Nostr context they at the very least choose to do so.
