The cherry tree is not very big. “Man size”, or thereabouts. It started as a potted cherry tree, but soon outgrew its pot.
Last year I stabbed each scale insect I saw with a needle, and at the end of the growing season I cut away all branches that had even a single scale insect, but it seems I'm in for another round.
I would hate to have to cut down the tree completely as it is hosting two small mistetoe plants that I sowed four years ago.
I wonder if the sparrows come for the scale insects or for the tiny ants (Lasius niger, I suppose) that collect the honey dew from the scale insects.
