Hey, thanks for the reply. I can see that you're far from sold on the idea that Christian doctrine will yield the best societies. Fair enough. I value having a place where people can air their opinions freely and have civil discussions. I'm pretty sure that they're necessary for a healthy society and I certainly don't know everything.

Your list contains some good examples and you're right about civilization not flying apart in the absence of Christianity; however, civilization, government, and society are different things. Your examples mostly focus on the former two and I kinda see government as a subset of society(at least it should be). The book 1984 painted a clear picture of a world in which civilization and government endured at the expense of a healthy society. Some classes of people were fine, but most were not. You see exactly the same picture in the societies you listed. I literally pray that my children will be spared from such a world, all the while living in the midst of one. Christian doctrine teaches that God isn't at all concerned with our class or station.

If you know Jesus' teachings, can you honestly say that the empires that carried his name actually followed them? Of course they didn't. Perhaps some small communities and pieces of the empires did, but those societies erred greatly when they allowed the fire that is government(even church government) out of its hearth. Jesus was right, healthy societies, our neighbors and local communities, and how we treat each other on the individual level are the heart of the matter. The cornerstone of all of these is a knowledge and love of God. Government was barely a footnote in his teachings. Jefferson said it well, "The sum of good government is to restrain men from injuring one another and to leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement." Knowledge, faith, and love of God are the best guides for this freedom that Jefferson speaks of. They are what make our pursuits good. Sometimes I wonder if the real currency is freedom. When you think back on the best times of your life, didn't freedom accompany them? When we sacrifice our freedoms to commit to a friend, spouse, or obey God, doesn't that really count for something? You guys love Bitcoin; isn't freedom what makes it great? Jesus came to set you free indeed.
