This leads to your reasonable question of: what incentive does hamas have to give up their leverage?
The answer is that if they do not, the legacy of hamas will be Nakba 2.0. If hamas actions lead directly to permanent loss of territory, then the Arab world will never forgive them.
What is being exposed is that hamas never cared about Palestinians and is motivated ONLY by hatred of and desire to destroy Israel.
