You might have noticed in the last toot a not often talked about US program called the Freedman's Village (built on the Lee's estate) which was a government planned city for Black Americans who were former slaves.
It inspired the Freedman's Bureau.
The failure of the Freedman's Bureau is one of the facets of US history that I frequently refer to and demand redress from current politicians bc this program was undermined and the Black American community never recovered.
