The Special Court of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) extended by 180 days the precautionary measures that affect the governor of Acre, Gladson Cameli (PP), and other investigated individuals in Operation Ptolomeu. The judge Nancy Andrighi, the rapporteur of the process, voted to reject the defenses' appeals and maintain the restrictions. She was followed unanimously. The trial took place on May 7. "I conclude by maintaining the precautionary measures and also add that three habeas corpus have been filed in the STF in defense of the investigated individuals, and the Supreme Court maintained all the precautionary measures decreed by the STJ," the judge defended. The precautionary measures include the removal of public servants, the suspension of the economic activities of companies under suspicion, and the restriction of contact between the investigated individuals. Gladson Cameli is being investigated for suspicion of money laundering, corruption, embezzlement, and bid-rigging. The indictment was received in December 2024. The lawyer Pedro Ivo Velloso Cordeiro, who represents the governor, claims that he is a victim of 'persecution' and that the accusations have not been proven. The Attorney General's Office attributes Gladson Cameli with the role of leadership in a supposed scheme of diversion of public contracts in Acre. He is pointed out as the main beneficiary of the diverted money. The indictment involves a contract between the Acre State Infrastructure and Urban Development Secretariat and the Murano Construction Company, in May 2019, during the governor's first term, for the maintenance of public buildings. Investigators identified that, one day after the contract was signed, Murano closed a partnership with Rio Negro, managed by Gladson Cameli's brother, who received almost R$ 2 million. According to investigators, it is clear that there was an agreement for the indirect hiring of the governor's brother's company and an attempt to hide his participation to avoid drawing attention from investigation and control bodies. One of the central proofs considered in the investigation is the purchase of an apartment, valued at R$ 6 million, in the Jardins neighborhood in São Paulo. The property is pointed out as a bribe. The Attorney General's Office also alleges that there was overpricing and overpayment of the contract, estimated at R$ 11.7 million. Operation Ptolomeu was divided into nine inquiries, targeting other suspicious contracts. Already, dozens of investigators and over 22,000 pages of documents have been identified. Gladson Cameli is the main target of the investigations.
