Portland, Oregon, once housed an extraordinary example of log architecture known as the Forestry Building, often referred to as the temple of timber. Constructed for the 1905 Lewis and Clark Exposition, this remarkable edifice was among the largest log structures in the world. It was built from massive Douglas fir logs, with some members measuring up to six feet in thickness and 54 feet in length, showcasing the engineering and craftsmanship of the era.

Upon entering the Forestry Building, visitors experienced a space that resembled a grand wooden cathedral. The interior was adorned with impressive exhibits highlighting the significance and beauty of Oregon’s timber industry. From immense logs to meticulously crafted furniture, the building served as a celebration of the region’s forestry heritage.
