My first contact with US-style ideas on personal hygiene were when I was an exchange student in Tokyo in the early 2000s.

There I learnt first hand how so many Americans seem to believe, for some reason, that things like taking a daily shower, clipping their finger- and toenails, using some sort of deodorant, brushing their teeth, or keeping a tidy clean mop of hair, are optional matters.

This was before Reddit, but there were predecessors of it and I can attest that the incel persona was already around and displayed some rather radical views on personal hygiene, even by the standard described above: things like wiping one's ass after taking a dump were bashed as "effeminate".

Not saying the person commenting here is one of them, because in the end she's just asking... although asking is already an indication.

In any case it's funny because while all the above exists in the US, there is also the common trope among Americans about the supposed failings in the hygienic department of other peoples and countries, for instance the French for the number of women who (supposedly) do not remove body hair, or the British for (supposedly) having poor dental hygiene.
Do you people shower EVERY day or nah?
