This is a detail from the marvellously decorated interior of the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris.
The chapel was built by Louis IX in the middle of the C13th. It cost half of France's annual income to construct, and was created to house some recently-acquired religious relics - including the Crown of Thorns and a fragment of the True Cross.
Most visitors focus on the extraordinary stained-glass windows, but I prefer the painted walls and columns.
