General Secretariat of the OAS demands verification of voting records in the Venezuelan electoral process
The General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS) expresses its solidarity with the victims of repression in Venezuela and their families, and demands the end of violence and the cessation of the government's imprisonment of protesters, to while reiterating the need to verify the voting minutes of the process Venezuelan electoral of July 28, 2024.
In that sense, we welcome the communications from Brazil, Colombia, Mexico and the United States announced yesterday.
Given that the only available minutes are those that have been made public by Venezuelan electoral actors, it is necessary and fundamental that the verification of minutes begins with the available material, until government and official actors can produce their own.
In this sense, the appointment of a commission of experts in the multilateral system is urgently needed to begin verification absolutely immediately.
The General Secretariat of the OAS highlights that the five-day delay in the publication of the electoral records is the longest in the history of the region. These minutes should have been made public on Sunday night, and as of today, Friday, they have not yet been published.
