I am not a fan of bee hotels except as an educational game for kids because 1. A lot of solitary bees nest in the soil 2. Where there is enough green for them to forage on, and one is not obsessively tidy, bees will find their own housing material 3. A bee hotel in a food desert for bees (ie courtyard) does not have much chance of attracting bees anyway. However, a neighbour gave me a little wooden box and I put it up, and now there's an interested bee inspecting every hole, which is very sweet
